i'm a famous NYer!!

You know you've made it when you've made it on Overheard in New York!!!!

Guy, to girl: Smart girls are never pretty. That's why you're a dumbass.

This is all I want

Is it too much to ask? I would just like ONE of them say, "you know what, erna? there's about 2 weeks til the wedding, you have too much on your plate. don't worry about it. we will take care of it."

Transformation is complete, I am now a bridezilla. Be warned!

Me, bawling

there will come a time

when you think you hate everyone. like now. i even hate parts of my body right now. no, not your typical flawed body parts. i mean like my right molar teeth and my throat. i hate them both. if i could yank them out of my body right now i would. my body is shutting down on me. i want to cry from the pain. there will come a time when things will suck like this. like being pissed that your bridal party seems too burnt out to plan your bachelorette party. which i'm not even looking forward to at this point due to the whole body shutdown mess. there will come a time when things suck and are a mess. and the only thing you can hope for is that it won't always feel like this. even though you can't quite picture things not sucking. like now.

Love and gratitude

I have had so many opportunities to rant about wedding related things. There is tons of drama involved in planning a wedding and for marriage that you cannot even conceive of or imagine. I thought I would be immune from the drama, believing I had a pretty decent family and set of friends, but I have learned that NOONE is immune from wedding drama. I guess its part of "initiation" into the marriage world.

I really should share those things just to illustrate the other side of the coin, but I have yet another lovefest of elation that I must share with you. I am receiving a GENEROUS gift from the parents of a child (with autism) that I had been working with since April of 2005. He started out with minimal sounds and by the time my services ended with him, he was telling me "Erna, I want the book please" and had a reading vocabulary of over 100 words. It wasnt always easy working with this kid, but his progress was absolutely gratifying. Here is part of an email that I sent his mom, who still keeps in touch regularly and I will let you know why I will be seeing them in a few weeks:

...My family is overwhelmed with gratitude for your generous gift of flowers. We had hired a florist but when my father told her how much flowers you were giving us, she said she could use those flowers to make the arrangements in church and for the flowergirls. Now we only have to pay for the services and are saving so much money with the flowers. thank you thank you thank you. i am so proud to tell people of your gift:) it is really making the flower decoration in the church so much more meaningful.

By the way, the florist said that if the flowers arrive on the 11th, that should be okay so if that is still the scheduled arrival of the flowers, that would be great. i really want you to see the flowers in the church when it is all decorated, do you think you and the family could at least attend the wedding ceremony? we would really be honored...

They are giving us 400 roses and 125 calla lillies. I am SO going to cry when I see these flowers decorating the church. I don't even care what color they will be. I am still in shock. Okay, I'm tearing up. Crap.

So, at this point, most brides and grooms have checklists up the wazoo. And my datebook, my dear, dear datebook, has never been utilize so much in all my years - even during college with paper and exam deadlines. I know, at a glance, that every single weekend from now til the big day has some kind of appointment or event. And for the past 3-4 weeks, there has been some kind of appointment to be made almost EVERY SINGLE DAY. I'm not saying they've all been unpleasant appointments. Some were quite lovely - like tennis lessons at the YMCA, bi-monthly mani-pedicures with my girlfriends, parties, shopping for stuff. Then there were the stressful ones like, meeting with the priest or meeting with someone to discuss jewelry (and if you know me, you KNOW the only piece of jewelry i have consistently worn other than my E-ring is a watch - and even that not so much, i've actually lost a few). So now I enjoy my datebook and checklists for the fun stuff. I've just glanced and spotted a couple of self-indulgent appointments - my special mani-pedicure and body scrub on the 30th, my facial on the 1st, my last gown fitting but hopefully i'll picking up my gown on the 2nd, the last day of school on the 28th, Spamalot on the 21st. These are the times when your checklist and datebook is your very best friend and comfort zone. This has GOT to be "one month to go" deliriousness talking. Oh well.
